The Matriarch

Over the course of the summer, I had an impromptu conversation with my friend’s mom. She had just become a mother for the first time. She said to me, “You know, I have friends who are grandparents and I never understood what all the fuss was about. Now, I have my own grandchild and let me tell you, I get it now.”

A grandmother of 7 and her beautiful grandchildren. Now, I know what you’re thinking…grandmother? Where?! Believe me, I’m right there with you.

This session brought me immense joy, for more reasons than one, but notably because of the celebration of family and legacy. At the core of both of those is a dynamic black woman and at her core, there is love.
